All serving members of the Armed Forces will be able to purchase tickets for this month’s Rugby League World Cup game at Spotland Stadium in Rochdale from just £5. Tournament organisers have confirmed that members of the serving military qualify as ‘concessions’ so can purchase discounted tickets for all games in the tournament, including Fiji v Ireland at Spotland Stadium on Monday 28 October.
Councillor Alan McCarthy, Lead Member for the Armed Forces at Rochdale Borough Council welcomed the announcement:
“It is heart-warming that concessions have been made available for our serving Armed Forces personnel during the tournament.”
Rochdale was one of the first councils in the country to sign the Armed Forces Community Covenant last November, aimed at encouraging local communities to support services that promote and encourage activities that help integrate Armed Forces personnel back into civilian life. It also encourages authorities to work more closely to support those in service and their families, ensuring there is no disadvantage associated with serving in the Armed Forces.
The game between Fiji and Ireland will be played at Spotland Stadium on Monday 28 October, kick off 8pm.
Tickets are available online at www.rlwc2013.com/rochdale or by phoning 0844 847 2013. Tickets are also available in person from Spotland Stadium box office. The game is being staged in partnership with Denehurst Park (Rochdale) Limited, Rochdale Borough Council, Link4Life, Hornets Rugby League, Rochdale AFC and AGMA (The Association of Greater Manchester Authorities).
