Rochdale opens books of condolence for Nelson Mandela

Residents can add their wishes to books of condolence that have been set up following the death of Nelson Mandela.

Rochdale Borough Council has opened four books that can be signed at locations across the borough by people who want to add their respects to the former South African president.

A book is available to sign at Rochdale Town Hall, Heywood Library, Middleton Library and Littleborough Library.

Council Leader Colin Lambert said Nelson Mandela inspired generations of people across the world:

“The death of Nelson Mandela has been an event of global significance and I know there are many residents in our borough who will want to mark his departure and record tributes to the contribution he made to peace and reconciliation in South Africa. Once they have been collected they will be passed to Mr Mandela’s family.”
