Record year for summer Bowlee car boot sales

Press release   •   Aug 18, 2014 16:11 BST

Following a record-breaking summer, excitement is building ahead of a bumper August bank holiday double-header of car boot sales at Bowlee Community Park in Middleton.

More people than ever before have attended the Bowlee car boot sale during May, June, July and August, with attendances up on last year by a significant number.

A second bank-holiday date has been added in response to overwhelming public demand, meaning local residents have an even better chance of snapping up a bargain.

Car boot sales at Bowlee will now take place on Sunday 24 and Monday 25 August, bringing the 2014 season to a close.

Councillor Jacqui Beswick, Cabinet Member for Housing and Environment, said: “We’ve worked very hard to promote the car boot sale to the community and we’ve been very pleased with the response from residents and people living outside of the borough.

“There have been some fantastic bargains snapped up by eager buyers, while sellers have turned some of their own unwanted items into a healthy profit.

“We’ve enjoyed some great weather this summer and we believe that a morning spent in one of the borough’s many fantastic green spots is a fantastic way to enjoy the sunshine.

“Because it's council-run you can be sure we've done all the right checks so you know you're buying and selling in a legal, safe environment.”

The last three events of this year are on Sunday 17, 24 and 25 August.

Bowlee Community Park is just off Heywood Old Road (A6045), Middleton, with excellent and easy access from the M60 (junction 19).
