Mayor congratulates parents on new skills

Press release   •   Mar 04, 2014 16:28 GMT

The Mayor and Mayoress of Rochdale Borough visited Derby Street Sure Start Children’s Centre this week to present successful parents with certificates for attending a 5-week Home and Outdoor Safety course.

Mayor Peter Rush handed the parents their certificates and afterwards they had the chance to talk about their experiences and what they had learnt over a buffet lunch.

Councillor Rush said “I was amazed by the hard work and commitment these mums and dads had put into completing this course. As a father myself, I know how time and energy-consuming it can be to raise a small child – it is a 24/7 job. To overcome these challenges and complete the course made me very proud of everyone involved.”

Sure Start children's centres offer a range of support and services including early learning and childcare, employment and training and health services. You can find out more including planned activities at all 19 centres across the borough by visiting
