Here’s the Word on Poetry Workshop

Press release   •   Sep 23, 2014 16:32 BST

Rochdale Borough Libraries is hosting a special workshop to celebrate National Poetry Day.

The workshop aims to help budding poets develop their work and will focus on writing from real life stories and experiences.

The event will be hosted by Cheryl Martin, Associate Director of New Writing/New Work at the Contact Theatre in Manchester and Director-in-residence at the Traverse Theatre in Edinburgh. She has won Manchester Evening News Theatre Awards as a director for Rona Munro’s Iron and for Working Girls, as a writer for Heart and Soul at Oldham Coliseum Theatre and as a co-director/producer at the Traverse Theatre for The World’s Too Much at Edinburgh Fringe First.

The workshop, which is suitable for ages 14 and above, takes place at Number One Riverside, from 5-6pm on Thursday 2 October. Tickets are priced at £2.

For further information or to book a place visit and click on pre-festival events.

The workshop is also a lead-in event for the Rochdale Literature & Ideas Festival which this year runs from 24-26 October.

The festival is due to the generosity of Annie and Frank Maskew, a Rochdale couple who shared a passion for reading and thinking, who originally met in Rochdale Library. They left a sum of money to be used on resources and events related to literature and philosophy to ensure classic works are available for future generations.

Tickets are available from or in person at the festival box office at Rochdale Central Library, Number One Riverside.

The programme is available in a variety of formats.  You can download it from the festival website, or view it day-by-day online.

You can order a paper copy by emailing or pick one up free from your local library.
