Duke of Edinburgh’s Awards – experience of a life-time

Press release   •   Oct 03, 2013 15:59 BST

Rochdale Youth Service is once again opening the doors to young people from across the borough to register on the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.

Two open days will be held on 8 October at Deeplish Community Centre and on 9 October at Matthew Moss Youth centre to give prospective participants the opportunity to find out more about the award.

The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award requires commitment, persistence and hard work -- in return young people are promised an exciting adventure, lots of fun and exciting experiences. They will get to learn new skills, meet other young people and explore various parts of the country.

The experience will give young people a new found confidence and give them a different perspective and outlook on the world around them. Achieving the award will help make applications to college, university or work stronger.

Young people will be able to draw on the professional and friendly support of qualified leaders and youth workers.

Cabinet member for Children’s Services, Councillor Donna Martin says: “Everyone is welcome to join this exciting programme. It is an adventurous journey in an open environment to share and learn from each other. You’ll gain valuable new skills and memories to last you a lifetime.”

Following on from a history of successful outcomes, this year we are inviting young people, and their parents, to join us at one of two open days to find out more about joining the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award and the exciting adventure of achieving the award.
